Eleena: October 2022 Student of the Month

Meet our October Student of the Month, Eleena.

Eleena is seven years old and attends the One Life Movement learning center in Bamanwada, Mumbai for afterschool classes and assistance. She lives in a slum in Andheri East, Mumbai with her mother, father, and brother. Her parents are originally from Mumbai, and Eleena, too, was born and raised in the city she now calls home. 

When Eleena first came to the learning center, she was very shy and didn’t talk much. Part of this was because she didn’t know how to spell a lot of the words they were learning in class. Now that she’s been regularly attending the learning center, she has been talking more, and her teachers say she has improved tremendously in her studies. She has also been showing more interest in her studies, which she didn’t have any of when she first joined. 

Eleena’s teachers describe her as a good-natured girl. She is obedient in the classroom, follows instructions well, and doesn’t disrupt the other children. Seeing her improvements from where she was when she first started compared to how she is excelling now has been an encouragement to Eleena, her teachers, as well as the rest of us at OLM.
