Shifa: January 2023 Student of the Month

Meet our first Student of the Month of 2023, Shifa.

Shifa is seven years old and attends the One Life Movement learning center in Bandra, Mumbai. Her parents immigrated to Mumbai from a village in Uttar Pradesh, and neither of them have received an education or know how to read. While the father works as a painter, the mother stays at home as a housewife, so their family of six relies solely on the father’s income to survive. Unfortunately, painters do not earn much despite their hard work and long hours. Their financial situation is very difficult at the moment, and this can cause a lot of stress for both young Shifa and her parents. 

Ever since Shifa started attending the One Life Movement learning center, she has been developing more and more in her speaking and letter recognition abilities. Although learning the alphabet was a challenge at first, Shifa can now read and say short words, which is a big improvement from where she started when she began her classes. Shifa is a stellar student, and she is always very punctual about arriving to class on time. 

It is amazing that Shifa has improved so much in such a short period of time. She has risen to the challenge of learning the alphabet and is overcoming all the obstacles in her way.
