Nitu: March 2023 Story of Empowerment

Meet our March 2023 featured student for Stories of Empowerment, Nitu. Nitu is from the Beherapali village in Odisha, India. She lives with her mother, father, and brother. 

Nitu’s father is the only earning member of the family, and he works at the local aluminium factory. Due to Nitu’s brother’s studies and her mother’s health, all the money the father brings in is quickly exhausted, and there is not a single penny left. Nitu says that this would cause her to experience a lot of anxiety, as she was not able to help her family financially in any way. 

One day, Nitu came to learn about the OLM tailoring classes through a neighbor of hers. She was thrilled to find this opportunity to take a reputable tailoring course for free. Nitu was nervous at first but quickly picked up a wide variety of tailoring skills and how to sew many types of women’s clothing. “Because of this tailoring course,” Nitu says, “I can now stand on my feet and help my family. This is why I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
